Bodmans appear in Farleigh Hungerford at the end of the 18th century with a John Bodman reputedly born about 1760 near Devizes. At the moment it is not known who this John Bodman descends from. Often with agricultural labouring families very few records survive. However this Bodman family was the main problem family in the village with illegitimate birth, crime and support from the parish, so a rich amount of details.
As you will learn later John Bodman was to have a sad end after a difficult life he was hung for highway robbery at Ilchester.
