Thomas Bodman (1775 – 1853) & Sarah Ward (1793 – 1868)
Thomas Bodman was born about 1775, he was a leather worker. He married Sarah Ward who was born in Market Lavington about 1793 at Calne Parish Church on 17th April 1815.
Thomas and Sarah had the following known children, all baptised at Calne:
Catherine Bodman born 31st May, baptised 28th June 1815 buried 9 Nov 1816
Thomas Bodman born 15th January, baptised 12 February 1817
Edwin Bodman born 17 February, baptised 21 February 1819
Benjamin Bodman born 1822
Sarah Catherine Bodman born 13th January, baptised 10 February 1826
At the time of the birth of his children his occupation is given as a shoemaker.
At the time of the 1841 census aged 65, he was living at Butcher’s Row, Calne and was a cordwainer.
At the time of the 1851 census, then aged 75 he had moved to Mill Street and was a bootmaker.
Thomas died in 1853 and was buried at Calne on 20th June. His wife Sarah died in 1868 and was buried on 29th June also at Calne.
